Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at info@streamwaylegalservices.co.uk if you cannot find an answer to your question.

1. About Our Service

Are you a regulated law firm

No. We are not a regulated law firm and we are not authorised or regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA). This allows us to keep our fees low while providing high‑quality support.

What does “unregulated” mean for clients

Because we are not a regulated law firm, clients do not receive the same regulatory protections they would have when using an SRA‑regulated firm. We are transparent about this so you can make an informed choice.

Do you carry out reserved legal activities

No. We do not provide any services that are reserved under the Legal Services Act 2007. We only offer unreserved legal services, such as drafting, guidance and support.

Who will I get advice from

All advice and support is provided by legally qualified professionals. Although our company is not regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority, all services we provide are unreserved legal services delivered by qualified lawyers.

Is my information kept confidential

Yes. All information you share with us is treated as confidential and handled in line with data protection law. We do not share your information with third parties unless you ask us to or it is necessary to provide the service.

Do you check for conflicts of interest

Yes. Before we begin working with you, we check that there is no conflict of interest. If a conflict exists, we will not be able to assist and will signpost you to an alternative provider.

How do I make a complaint

We aim to provide a high‑quality service, but if something goes wrong you can raise a complaint directly with us. We will review it promptly and work with you to resolve the issue. As we are not an SRA‑regulated law firm, complaints cannot be escalated to the Legal Ombudsman.

What are unbundled legal services

Unbundled services let you choose specific parts of a legal process you want help with, instead of paying for full representation. You stay in control while we support you with targeted, cost‑effective assistance.

Do you work remotely

Yes. Most of our services are delivered remotely for convenience and efficiency. Where a face‑to‑face meeting is required, we will arrange an in‑person appointment or signpost you to a local solicitor.

What can you help me with

We assist with:

  • drafting documents
  • checking forms
  • legal advice
  • preparing case materials
  • liaising with counsel or experts
  • complaint support
  • general support
  • signposting to regulated professionals where needed

What areas of law do you not cover

We do not cover:

  • crime
  • mental health / Court of Protection matters
  • personal injury
  • family law
  • immigration
  • employment law

Do you keep copies of my documents

We retain electronic documents for a limited period in line with our data retention policy. You can request deletion at any time unless we are required to keep them for legal reasons.

What payment methods do you accept

We accept payment by bank transfer. Payment is required before work begins unless otherwise agreed.

Do you offer payment plans

At present we do not offer instalment plans, but we keep our fees transparent and affordable.

Do you represent me or act on my behalf

No. You remain responsible for managing your case, filing documents and communicating with the court.

We cannot:

  • act as your legal representative
  • contact the court on your behalf
  • file or submit documents for you
  • conduct litigation
  • provide reserved legal activities under the Legal Services Act 2007

We can support you with drafting, preparation and guidance while you remain in control of your case.

Can you speak to the court for me

No. Contacting the court on your behalf is a reserved activity. We can help you prepare what to say or write, but all communication must come from you.

Can you speak to the other side for me

We can communicate with the other side in a limited, non‑representative capacity, including during pre‑action discussions and after proceedings have started. You remain self‑represented at all times.

Can you negotiate for me

Yes — as long as:

  • you remain self‑represented
  • we communicate in our own capacity
  • we do not present ourselves as your legal representative
  • we do not accept or make offers “on your behalf”

We can relay your position, discuss proposals and help move discussions forward safely.

Can you file documents for me

No. Filing or submitting documents on your behalf is a reserved activity. We prepare the documents for you, and you submit them yourself.

Can you help me prepare for a hearing

Yes. We can explain the process, help you organise your materials and prepare written submissions for you to present.

Is this service suitable if my case is already in court

Yes — provided you are managing the case yourself. We support with drafting, preparation and guidance.

Can you help me decide whether to start a claim

Yes. We can explain the process, outline your options and help you understand the steps involved.

Can you attend a hearing with me

We do not attend hearings, but we can help you instruct a barrister and prepare thoroughly, organise your materials and draft what you plan to say.

Can you draft a Will for me

Yes. We can draft a clear, legally‑valid Will based on your instructions.

Can you help me update an existing Will

Yes. We can prepare amendments or a new Will or codicil if your circumstances have changed.

Can you store my Will

We do not currently offer in‑house storage of any documents.

Can you prepare LPAs for me

Yes. We can prepare both types of LPA and guide you through the signing process.

Do LPAs need to be registered

Yes. LPAs must be registered with the Office of the Public Guardian before they can be used. We can help you complete the registration forms.

Can you act as my Certificate Provider

Depending on availability, a solicitor of the company can act as your certificate provider. Alternatively, we will signpost you to a local solicitor who can act as your Certificate Provider.

Can you store my LPA

We do not currently offer in‑house storage.

Do you offer fixed fees

Yes. Some of our services are offered on a fixed‑fee basis so you know exactly what you’re paying for.

How do you keep your fees low

We focus on unreserved legal services and operate without the overheads of a regulated law firm. This allows us to offer clear, affordable fixed fees while still providing support from qualified lawyers.

Do you offer ongoing support

Yes. You can return for help at any stage of your matter, depending on availability. You only pay for the specific tasks you choose.

Do you offer evening or weekend appointments

Yes. We can assist during evenings and weekends, depending on availability.

Do you offer urgent or same‑day support

Where possible, yes. Availability depends on workload, but we aim to accommodate urgent matters whenever we can.

Timescales

Turnaround times vary depending on the complexity of your matter, but we will always give you an estimated timescale before starting work. Urgent work may be available depending on capacity.

How do I get started

Simply contact us with a brief outline of what you need. We’ll confirm whether it’s within our scope and provide a clear fixed fee before any work begins.

What happens after I contact you

We will review your enquiry, confirm whether it is within our scope, provide a fixed fee, and outline the next steps. No work begins until you approve the fee.

How do I send you my documents

You can send documents securely by email or via an encrypted document‑sharing link.

Do you offer home visits

We do not offer home visits. All services are delivered remotely unless a face‑to‑face meeting is  required.
